Objectives

Ensure adequate and reliable power supply for the upcoming Economic Zones in Barishal and Rajshahi, the largest agricultural production zone in Bangladesh, to meet increasing demands in the southwest and northern regions.

Minimize the ROW requirements and mitigate potential safeguard issues.

Install an Efficient conductor to reduce line losses on 400 kV, 230 kV, and 132 kV power lines.

Results

Increased Capacity: Capacity of electricity supply in Bangladesh increased

Expansion: Transmission network in western Bangladesh expanded

CO2 Emission Reduction: The use of ACCC® Conductor has led to a reduction of 174,595 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions annually

Futureproofing the Power Grid with High-Capacity Conductors

To accommodate continued growth and prepare for an amazing future, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh “PGCB” is working hard to modernize their electric power grid which is expected to deliver 60 GW of electricity within the next two decades. Policy makers in Bangladesh have taken a pragmatic decision to push for a robust and sustainable future, by selecting climate friendly and high capacity ACCC® Conductors.

Bangladesh is pushing forward its economic growth aggressively under the Vision 2041 aiming to achieve a high-income country status by its 70th anniversary of independence. Bangladesh seeks to expand its economy by more than fivefold from now, and thus energy demand will inevitably increase. With rising global concerns on climate change, Bangladesh declared at the 2021 COP26 held in Glasgow, U.K. that the country will strive for achieving an up to 40% clean energy use in its power generation mix.

“The project will improve the operational performance of the power sector and contribute to the Government of Bangladesh’s target to achieve electricity for all.” – Asian Development Bank (ADB)
