CTC Global Applauds CurrENT’s Vision for a Smarter, Stronger European Grid

CTC Global proudly joins fellow members of CurrENT Europe in applauding the publication of CurrENT’s Recommendations for the Grids Package – a landmark proposal that outlines a forward-looking path toward a resilient, decarbonized, and competitive European electricity grid.

As the European Commission prepares its Grids Package (Q4 2025), CurrENT’s recommendations offer clear and actionable guidance to accelerate innovation, strengthen supply chains, and modernize Europe’s electricity infrastructure to meet the growing demands of electrification, industry, and clean energy integration.

A Unified Vision for Grid Preparedness and Innovation

CurrENT’s paper calls for the establishment of a Grid Preparedness and Innovation Strategy as a cornerstone of Europe’s grid modernization efforts. This strategy emphasizes resilience, modernization, and the large-scale deployment of Innovative Grid Technologies (IGTs) – including Grid-Enhancing Technologies, digital systems for real-time optimization, and high-capacity conductors that dramatically increase efficiency and transfer capability.

CTC Global fully supports this approach. As a technology leader and proud member of CurrENT, we recognize that the energy transition will require not just new generation but also a smarter, more adaptive transmission and distribution network. Innovative grid technologies offer the fastest, most cost-effective path to unlocking capacity and accelerating decarbonization.

CurrENT’s Top 5 Recommendations – A Framework for Progress

CurrENT’s proposal identifies five strategic priorities that together provide a strong blueprint for the European Grids Package:

  1. Establish a Grid Preparedness and Innovation Strategy
To modernize Europe’s grid, increase resilience, and expand the use of innovative technologies across all member states.
  2. Decarbonize the Power System Before 2040
With focused support for advanced grid solutions and European manufacturing of critical technologies.
  3. Revise the TEN-E Regulation
To ensure that innovative and cost-efficient technologies are considered before expanding physical infrastructure – reflecting the approach set by the U.S. FERC Order 1920.
  4. Adopt Binding, Quantifiable Grid Targets
Measuring progress in loss reduction, renewable curtailment, redispatch costs, and asset utilization efficiency.
  5. Leverage EU Financing for Innovation Deployment
Directing major funding programs toward scaling proven technologies, including Advanced Conductors, digital controls, and grid optimization tools.

This framework aligns innovation, policy, and financing to create an energy system that is more flexible, secure, and efficient – and one that enhances Europe’s industrial competitiveness while accelerating the path to net zero.

CTC Global’s Contribution to Europe’s Grid Transition

CTC Global’s ACCC® Advanced Conductor technology directly supports the objectives outlined in CurrENT’s recommendations. Designed to deliver up to double the capacity of conventional conductors while significantly reducing line losses, ACCC® Conductors enable utilities and system operators to increase transmission capacity without expanding rights-of-way – an essential capability in today’s rapidly evolving grid environment.

Our technology aligns with CurrENT’s principles in several key ways:

  • Optimizing Before Expanding: ACCC® Conductor helps utilities apply the NOVA principle – optimizing existing assets through advanced materials and design before building new infrastructure.
  • Accelerating Decarbonization: By improving grid efficiency, ACCC® Conductor reduces carbon emissions associated with power delivery.
  • Supporting European Manufacturing: CTC Global partners with European suppliers and conductor manufacturers to strengthen local production capacity.
  • Enhancing System Resilience: With higher strength, lower sag, and improved thermal performance, ACCC® Conductor ensures reliability under higher load and temperature conditions.

Through these capabilities, CTC Global contributes directly to the goals of grid modernization, system efficiency, and energy independence that CurrENT’s proposal so effectively champions.

Looking Ahead – Collaboration for a Smarter Grid

CTC Global commends CurrENT’s leadership, its authors, and all contributing members for producing a clear, technically grounded, and forward-looking roadmap for Europe’s electricity grids.

As the European Commission advances the Grids Package, CTC Global looks forward to continued collaboration with CurrENT members, policy leaders, and system operators to turn this vision into action. Together, we can help Europe build a more efficient, flexible, and future-ready grid – one that supports decarbonization, electrification, and industrial competitiveness across the continent.
