GETCO Modernizes Its 66 kV Network with ACCC® Conductors

GETCO selected Daman size ACCC® Conductor, the first deployment of India’s smallest Advanced Conductor, to reconductor 81 existing 66 kV transmission lines across Gujarat, nearly doubling corridor capacity while helping avoid approximately 4,000 acres of new right-of-way requirements.

Objectives

Increase Network Capacity. Expand power transfer capability across GETCO's extensive 66 kV transmission system to support growing industrial demand and grid expansion in Gujarat.

Maximize Existing Rights of Way. Increase transmission capacity without acquiring new land or constructing new transmission corridors.

Improve Network Performance. Enhance ampacity, reduce conductor sag, and improve efficiency through deployment of ACCC® Conductors.

Support Long-Term Grid Modernization. Strengthen one of India's largest 66 kV transmission networks while enabling future growth and renewable energy integration.

Results

Doubled Capacity Across Existing Corridors. GETCO selected Daman size ACCC® Conductor for reconductoring 81 transmission lines, increasing corridor capacity from approximately 30 MVA to 60 MVA under normal operating conditions.

Approximately 4,000 Acres of Right-of-Way Avoided. By upgrading existing lines rather than constructing new transmission corridors, GETCO avoided the need for significant additional right-of-way acquisition.

Reduced Sag and Improved Performance. Daman size ACCC® Conductor reduced sag by approximately 0.5 m at 550 Amps while enabling greater power transfer capability.

Rapid Infrastructure Upgrades. Reconductoring provided a faster alternative to building new transmission lines, allowing capacity enhancements to be deployed in months rather than years.

Delivering More Capacity Across Gujarat's 66 kV Network

Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) operates one of India’s largest state-owned transmission systems, with an extensive 66 kV network that serves as the backbone of electricity delivery across the state.

Gujarat is experiencing rapid growth in industrial activity, data centers, urban development, and electrification. Electricity demand in the state has increased from approximately 18.5 GW in 2020 to 29 GW in 2026, a rise of approximately 57%, and is projected to reach about 50 GW by 2031.

To prepare for this continued growth, GETCO sought a cost-effective solution to increase transmission capacity while maximizing the use of existing infrastructure and avoiding the need for new transmission corridors.

GETCO selected Daman size ACCC® Conductor, the smallest Advanced Conductor deployed in India, for a large-scale reconductoring initiative across 81 transmission lines. Building on more than a decade of successful ACCC® Conductor deployments in Gujarat, the ongoing two-year program is expanding capacity across existing corridors while helping avoid approximately 4,000 acres of additional right-of-way requirements.

The first deployment included the successful reconductoring and energization of the Machiyla–Malviya Pipariya, Bhingrad–Lath, and Dhasa–Bhingrad 66 kV transmission lines in Gujarat’s Amreli Zone. Completed within approximately 6 months from award to commissioning, the project demonstrated how reconductoring with ACCC® Daman Conductor can rapidly deliver additional transmission capacity while supporting GETCO’s broader network modernization efforts.
