Objectives

Increase Transmission Capability. Upgrade an existing 110 kV transmission asset to support growing electricity demand in northern Vietnam.

Maximize Existing Infrastructure. Enhance network performance through reconductoring while utilizing the existing transmission corridor.

Maintain Reliable Project Execution. Complete the installation under challenging site conditions while following established ACCC® Conductor installation practices.

Results

Efficient Use of Existing Infrastructure. Reconductoring enabled the utility to upgrade the line while leveraging existing transmission assets and minimizing disruption associated with new line construction.

Successful Installation in Challenging Conditions. The project was completed across sections of wet terrain with provincial roadways, and existing 35 kV and 22 kV lines along the route.

Supports Regional Economic Growth. The upgraded transmission corridor strengthens power delivery capabilities in the Ninh Binh Province area and supports growing electricity demand associated with industrial development, including the Xuân Thiện steel plant currently under construction.

Strengthening Transmission Infrastructure in Northern Vietnam

Vietnam’s growing industrial activity, urban development, and increasing electricity demand are driving continued investment in transmission infrastructure.

To support these efforts, EVNNPC selected Reykjavik sized ACCC® Conductor for the Nam Ninh–Nghia Hung 110 kV transmission line in northern Vietnam. The project involved the deployment of 75 km of ACCC® Conductor across 26 km of existing transmission infrastructure.

While the terrain along much of the route is relatively flat, the project presented several construction challenges. Portions of the corridor experience wet ground conditions that can complicate site access and construction activities. In addition, the line crosses provincial roadways as well as existing 35 kV and 22 kV transmission lines, requiring careful planning and execution during installation.

The use of the ACCC InfoCore® System improved the project’s reliability and a safe, fast, and cost-effective way of confirming that the ACCC® Conductor has been successfully installed.

This project demonstrates how Advanced Conductor technology can be deployed within existing transmission corridors to support utility modernization initiatives while making effective use of existing network assets.
