CTC Global is thrilled to share the successful completion and energization of the first-ever ACCC® Daman Conductor project for Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) in India. This exciting milestone marks GETCO’s initial foray into advanced high-performance conductor technology, and we’re honored to have played a part.
The project, located in the Amreli Zone of Gujarat, involved reconductoring several key 66 kV lines – namely the Machiyla–Malviya Pipariya line, the Bhingrad–Lath line, and the Dhasa–Bhingrad line. These lines were originally built with traditional ACSR Dog conductors. Rather than rebuilding structures or expanding right-of-way, GETCO chose to enhance capacity by installing ACCC® Daman conductors – offering double the ampacity without changing the physical footprint.
The ACCC® Daman conductor used in the project features a 4.83 mm composite core that matches the size and weight of the original ACSR Dog but delivers significantly more power with greater efficiency. It’s designed to handle higher operating temperatures while minimizing thermal sag, which is crucial for maintaining ground clearance and reliability, especially under peak loads.
Sterlite Power manufactured the conductor, while Tag Corporation supplied the associated hardware. The EPC contractor, Advait Energy Transitions Limited, managed the installation using specialized stringing tools and techniques. Even with some challenges along the way – like right-of-way access issues – the entire reconductoring effort was completed in just 67 days. That speed, combined with the technological leap, sets a new bar for HTLS upgrades in India.
More than anything, this project was about taking a smart, forward-looking approach to grid improvement. By choosing a conductor that didn’t require structural modifications, GETCO managed to achieve a substantial performance upgrade without the delays and costs associated with rebuilding infrastructure. The result? A much more efficient and robust 66 kV network, ready to meet growing demand while minimizing losses.
