CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor Powers Bangladesh’s 400 kV Kaliakoir–Bogura Transmission Line: A Milestone in Infrastructure Development

Overview

The successful completion of the 400 kV Double Circuit Kaliakoir–Bogura transmission line in Bangladesh marks a significant achievement in the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its energy infrastructure. This project, which spans a distance of 131.09 kilometers, is part of the broader Barapukuria–Bogura–Kaliakoir 400 kV Transmission Line Project, aimed at enhancing Bangladesh’s power transmission capabilities and supporting regional energy cooperation.

The Role of the Kaliakoir–Bogura Transmission Line

The Kaliakoir–Bogura transmission line is a critical component in bolstering the national power grid, particularly for the northern regions of Bangladesh. The project’s primary objectives include strengthening the high-voltage transmission network, facilitating the import of electricity from neighboring countries like India, Nepal, and Bhutan, and supporting the country’s rapid industrialization and urbanization. By improving power transmission capacity, the line will ensure a more reliable and efficient electricity supply, meeting growing demand while fostering economic growth.

The line’s construction also contributes to regional energy cooperation, as it provides the infrastructure to enable the import of more electricity, ensuring energy security and stability for Bangladesh. The project has been jointly financed by the Government of Bangladesh, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), and international sources such as the Indian Exim Bank, with an estimated total cost of approximately BDT 98,058.356 lakh.

ACCC® Conductor: The Technology Behind the Success

At the heart of the Kaliakoir–Bogura transmission line’s success is CTC Global’s ACCC® Conductor, a high-performance conductor that has been integral to the project’s efficient and incident-free deployment. The line, which includes approximately 3,150 kilometers of ACCC® Dhaka Conductor, was energized on March 29, 2025, after 19 months of meticulous installation. The conductor’s superior efficiency and high ampacity made it an ideal choice for this high-voltage transmission project.

The ACCC® Conductor was supplied by Sterlite Power, a leading global provider of power transmission solutions. The hardware used in the project was supplied by Preformed Line Products (PLP), known for its high-quality fittings and accessories designed to support reliable conductor performance. The project’s Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) responsibilities were carried out by KEC International Ltd., a globally recognized infrastructure EPC company. On-site implementation and key field activities were supported by Sohel Engineering, serving as the local sub-contractor and playing a critical role in executing the ground-level installation work.

Seamless Installation and Execution

One of the standout features of this deployment was the flawless execution of the conductor installation. Under the expert supervision of Master Installer (MI) Y. Raheem, the installation team achieved an impressive installation rate of around 39 kilometers per week, even reaching 44 kilometers per week based on On-Site Support (OSS) days. The project was completed without a single incident related to the ACCC® Conductor, underscoring the careful planning, preparation, and execution that went into the project.

Factors Driving the Success

The success of the Kaliakoir–Bogura transmission line project can be attributed to several key factors, with ACCC® Conductor’s inherent benefits playing a central role. ACCC® Conductor’s superior ampacity allowed for more efficient transmission of power, reducing losses and enhancing grid reliability. Furthermore, the conductor’s composite core offers greater strength and resilience, making it well-suited for long-distance transmission over challenging terrains.

Beyond the technology itself, a series of best practices in project management and field execution ensured the project’s success. These included thorough document review, detailed planning, equipment readiness, rigorous hardware management, and targeted crew training. Special attention was given to critical installation procedures, particularly for dead-end and mid-span joint assemblies, which were carried out to the highest quality standards.

Strategic placement of equipment and real-time engagement with the crew were also crucial to maintaining progress and safety throughout the installation process. The ability to address issues promptly and ensure alignment across the team was a key driver in meeting project timelines.

The Impact of the Kaliakoir–Bogura Transmission Line

Upon completion, the Kaliakoir–Bogura transmission line will provide several significant benefits, including enhanced grid reliability, increased power import capacity, and continued support for Bangladesh’s economic development. The line will help reduce transmission losses, stabilize the national grid, and increase the country’s capacity to import electricity from regional neighbors, contributing to energy security and diversification.

Moreover, the project highlights the importance of modern, high-capacity conductors like the ACCC® Conductor in upgrading transmission infrastructure. With its superior performance, reliability, and efficiency, ACCC® Conductor is setting a new benchmark for transmission projects, not just in Bangladesh but across the globe.

Summary

The Kaliakoir–Bogura transmission line represents a vital step forward in Bangladesh’s energy infrastructure. The successful deployment of ACCC® Conductor – supplied by Sterlite Power, with hardware from Preformed Line Products, and expertly installed by KEC International Ltd. in collaboration with sub-contractor Sohel Engineering – demonstrates what is possible when advanced technology meets disciplined execution. This critical project will continue to deliver measurable value for years to come, supporting the country’s economic growth and strengthening regional energy cooperation.
