NEA Completes 1st ACCC® Conductor Installation in Nepal

With the support of Mudbhary and Joshi Construction pvt, Ltd., Nepal Electric Authority (NEA) completed upgradation of their 33 kV Dhalkebar to Mujeliya Line in Nepal. NEA selected 242 kcmil Silvassa size ACCC Conductor to replace ACSR Dog size conductor.

The ~22 circuit kilometer double circuit line used 144 kilometers of ACCC Conductor provided by Apar Industries Ltd. The reconductor project used existing steel lattice structures with ~130 meter spans without modification. There were a few longer spans over waterways and highways.

The primary drivers of the project were to increase line capacity to serve growing demand in the Janakpur (Mujeliya) Area and improve system reliability. The project was funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under their South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation Power System Expansion Project.

ACCC Hardware for the project was provided by Sicame India. Tesmec TSE FRS 400 tensioners and ARS 400 pullers were used. ACCC Master Installer Mr. Wangdi Sherpa from Apar Industries Ltd provided training and installation support. The installation went very smoothly, but securing outages was challenging due to load constraints in this densely populated region.
