Enhancing Reliability for Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

The Maha Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, is the world’s largest human gathering. Recently, it took place in Uttar Pradesh, India, bringing together over 500 million people in just 44 days. While the event is known for its cultural and spiritual significance, it also poses unique infrastructure challenges, particularly in managing the vast energy needs of such a large-scale event.

 

Supporting the Demand with Strategic Upgrades

To support the power demands, Apar Industries Limited led a critical 220kV transmission upgrade along the Prayagraj Cantt – Rewa Road Substation for Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL). This project involved the installation of ACCC® Conductor, designed to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply.

The complexity of this upgrade was magnified by several engineering and logistical hurdles:

  • A 900-meter river crossing, requiring careful planning and execution.
  • Live-line undercrossing of 132kV and 66kV circuits to minimize disruptions to the existing grid.
  • Urban congestion, navigating logistical hurdles in densely populated areas while working under tight deadlines.

Despite these challenges, the project was completed on schedule, ensuring a reliable power supply during this high-demand period. A special acknowledgment goes to Apar Industries, whose engineering expertise and rapid execution were instrumental in overcoming the challenges of this large-scale upgrade. Strengthening the Power Network

This latest upgrade builds upon previous grid modernization efforts, including the successful reconductoring of the 132kV Minto Park – Rewa Road line for the 2019 Prayag Ardh Kumbh Mela. Over the past decade, nearly 50 transmission lines at 132kV and 220kV in Uttar Pradesh have been upgraded with CTC Global’s advanced conductor technology, supporting the region’s growing energy needs.
