Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) Completes First ACCC® Installation in Thailand

On January 10, 2024, EGAT successfully energized their 230 kV double circuit Hin Kong power plant transmission line. EGAT selected the double bundled 1386 kcmil Ratchaburi size ACCC® Conductor to replace a double bundled 1272 kcmil ACSR conductor to enable the connection of the new 1400 MW Hin Kong power plant, which substituted the retired 700 MW TECO power plant. Using ACCC® Conductor allowed them to quickly double the capacity of the double-circuit transmission line without the need to replace or alter existing structures.

While the project faced many installation challenges, including traversing densely populated villages and highway crossings, the work was completed in just two months. Circuit one was reconductored while circuit two remained energized and vice versa.

As this was the first ACCC® Project in Thailand, CTC Global mobilized Duratrans to support conductor installation with EGAT’s contractor, TSEC (Thailand) Co Ltd. CTC Global’s Master Installer, Mark Eglinton, was also on hand during the installation. Midal Cables supplied the ACCC® Conductor for the project, and PLP Thailand provided the ACCC® Hardware.

Mr. Karmin Sridech, Regional Business Development Manager, Asia Pacific for CTC Global, stated: “We were very pleased to support EGAT’s first ACCC® Installation and look forward to further supporting upcoming projects.”

EGAT is a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Energy and supervision of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in charge of the power generation supply (the single buyer) and system operator for the national control center (power plant dispatching) and transmission nationwide via 500/230/115/69 kV transmission systems.
